Further information

Embark on this journey on board the Luxembourg City Tour to visit one of the most fascinating places in Luxembourg: The Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial.

Step aboard the comfortable, air-conditioned bus as we set off on a poignant and educational trip to one of Luxembourg’s most significant historical landmarks. Upon arrival at the American Cemetery, located just outside the city, you will be greeted by the solemn tranquillity of this sacred site. The cemetery consists of 17 acres of manicured lawn surrounded by 33.5 acres of woods.

The visitor centre is to the left as the visitor enters the front gates. As guests enter through the gates, they will see the impressive Memorial Chapel encompassed by a stone terrace directly in front of them. The cemetery serves as the final resting place for 5070 service members, who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II. Many of them lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge and in advance to the Rhine River.Take a moment to pay your respects at the graves of these courageous soldiers, each one a testament to the enduring spirit of freedom and democracy. Pause at the Memorial Chapel, where a serene atmosphere invites quite reflection and contemplation.

The cemetery was established in 1944 by the 609th Quartermaster Company of the U.S. Third Army while Allied Forces were stemming the enemy’s desperate Ardennes Offensive. The city of Luxembourg served once as headquarters for General George S. Patton’s U.S. Third Army, and the Luxembourg American Cemetery is now the final resting place of General Patton.

After a brief 30 minutes stop of exploring the grounds and paying homage to the fallen, we gather once more to board the bus and return to the city center.
